Embarking on a soul-stirring journey to the hidden treasure of Kobuk Valley National Park beckons the intrepid spirit within. This remarkable oasis, a desert amidst the Arctic Circle, holds untold stories and secrets known only to the indigenous nation. Dare to seek their wisdom and beauty on this ancient terrain of mystery and wonder, bringing diverse groups into this space of higher learning and human connection to protect our precious outdoor environments.
What has been your favorite adventure experience? One of my most cherished outdoor adventures is solo backpacking across Japan. I immersed myself in the country's culture and embraced exploration all while forgetting time and days! Slept in the streets of Japanese towns and countryside. Starting from Tokyo, I journeyed through Hokkaido and the Riki Islands, returning via a fisherman's boat to Orturo and then heading south to Kyoto. Along the way, I found peace with Buddhist monks near Mt. Fuji before summiting the Mt. Fuji.
What would you do with $10,000?The $10,000 will be allocated to Love is King, my nonprofit, which empowers BIPOC leaders through nature experiences and enhances environmental justice advocacy. Diverse representation in decision-making for public lands and outdoor activities is essential for addressing conservation and collaboration with indigenous groups. The funds will establish a new BIPOC leadership team for the 2025 season at Love is King to bolster conservation efforts.
