Quarter-Finalist

Kelly Goodall

The outdoors is my reset & what keeps me grounded. At nearly 50 years old, I decided to start solo backpacking. I’d love to hike every NP!

What national park do you dream of visiting?

How can I pick just one? Acadia, Denali, Yosemite… I want to see them all! I’ve got a stack of planning materials for Bryce Canyon and would probably set out for Buckskin Gulch. I enjoy traveling with my dog Remi. She never asks how much farther or complains and is just as excited to set out on an adventure as I am. Whenever I get into the drawer where I keep my hiking attire, she starts dancing around the house. She knows that we will soon be setting out on an adventure together.

What has been your favorite adventure experience?

My first backpacking trip. I’ve didn’t have much exposure to the hobby or know anyone else who enjoyed it. I pieced together gear, packed up the dog and we just did it. The mental fortitude required to truly enjoy the solitude isn’t for everyone, I however was very much at peace and content to go it alone.

What would you do with $10,000?

Travel. Explore. Experience. Enjoy Dream, plan and realize.
